Concurrent Enrollment

Please see below for policies and procedures for enrolling in a chemistry lecture and lab courses via Concurrent Enrollment. Pay special attention to the policies for impacted lectures and lab courses.

Concurrent Enrollment for Chemistry/Biochemistry Lecture Courses

If you're interested in enrolling in a Chemistry/Biochemistry lecture course through Concurrent Enrollment, please follow these steps:

  1. Review the Enrollment Process: Familiarize yourself with the instructions for signing up for classes through Concurrent Enrollment as outlined on UCSD Extension's website.

  2. Submit a Concurrent Enrollment EASy Request: For Chemistry Lectures, complete a Concurrent Enrollment EASy Request. Please note: EASy Requests cannot be approved for courses that are already full so check the Schedule of Classes before submitting your request.. Only submit requests for courses with available seats listed on the schedule of classes. Requests are processed on a first-come, first-served basis once continuing students have completed their enrollment period. If a course is full or has waitlisted sections, we will review Concurrent Enrollment requests starting from week 1.

  3. Review by Academic Advisor: A Chemistry/Biochemistry academic advisor will review your EASy request. If additional information is required, you will be notified.  If space is available in your desired course, your request will be approved. For undergraduate classes co-scheduled with graduate-level classes (e.g., CHEM 156 and 256), Student Affairs will forward the request to the instructor for review.

  4. Attend Lecture Courses: Attend the Chemistry lecture course(s) you wish to add, even if your request is pending approval. Note that attending courses in which your request has been denied is not permitted.  

    • Vaccination Status Verification: Only students who have verified their vaccination status through Extension or received an exemption/deferral are eligible to attend in-person courses. If you haven't been approved by Extension, you are not permitted to attend on-site classes.

  5. Payment Instructions: If your request is approved, you'll receive an email with instructions for payment through the Extended Studies website.


Concurrent Enrollment for Chemistry/Biochemistry Lab Courses

If you wish to enroll in one of the department’s lab courses via concurrent enrollment, read and follow the steps below:

If you're interested in enrolling in a Chemistry/Biochemistry lab course through Concurrent Enrollment, please follow these steps:

  1. Review the Enrollment Process: Familiarize yourself with the instructions for signing up for classes through Concurrent Enrollment as outlined on UCSD Extension's website.

  2. Submit a Concurrent Enrollment EASy Request: For Chemistry Labs, complete a Concurrent Enrollment EASy Request. Please note: EASy Requests cannot be approved for courses that are already full so check the Schedule of Classes before submitting your request. Requests are processed on a first-come, first-served basis once UCSD students have completed their enrollment period. If a course is full or has waitlisted sections, we will review Concurrent Enrollment requests starting from week 1.

  4. Lab Attendance: Lab section attendance is prohibited unless you have received official enrollment approval. You can and should attend the lecture portion of the lab while waiting for your request to be processed. If your request has been denied, you cannot attend either the lecture or lab.
